How many movies can 8GB hold? In this day and age 8GB is not a lot of space, especially if you are trying to save movies to it. While 8GB is super small IMO, you can still store a couple of flicks on it, depending on the size.

How Many Movies can 8GB Hold?

As stated above, 8GB is not a lot of space, but nonetheless, you can squeeze some movies into that amount of storage space.

Before I get into the meat of the matter, I should let you know that the numbers used below are based off real world averages.

Movie Sizes used:

To give you an idea as to the storage capacity of 8GB of data, we will use the general

  • SD Movie from iTunes = 1.5GB (Average Size)
  • 720p Movie from iTunes = 4GB (Average Size)
  • 1080p Movie from iTunes = 5GB (Average Size)
  • DVD Rip (Pirated) = 700MB (Average Size)*
  • Blue Ray Rip 720p (Pirated) = 1GB (Average Size)*
  • Blue Ray Rip 1080p (Pirated) = 3.5GB (Average Size)*

*Please note that the numbers used above are all averages and the file sizes can vary drastically, as this depends on the length of the movie as well as how they are encoded.

Movie Type Size 8 GB
SD Movie from iTunes 1.5 GB 4
720p Movie from iTunes 4 GB 2
1080p Movie from iTunes 5 GB 1
DVD Rip (Pirated) 700 MB 11
Blue Ray Rip 720p (Pirated) 1 GB 8
Blue Ray Rip 1080p (Pirated) 3.5 GB 2

As you can see 8GB can’t hold much, especially if you have some HD movies in your collection. With that said, if you have an old 8GB MicroSD or 8GB SD cards lying around, a couple movies should fit on there with no problems.
