Other Vital Memory Card Information

When looking for A3100 IS memory card, you should know that the cards come in a variety of storage sizes. You should also be aware that there memory cards also have different speed ratings. The reasons why those speed ratings exist, is because they are there to indicate how quickly data can be written/read. SD and SDHC cards have speed ratings of 2, 4, 6 and 10. SDXC cards speed ratings go from Class 4, 6 and 10. SDXC cards also have another speed rating known as Ultra High Speed (UHS)

  • Class 2 – Minimum of 2 MB/s performance. (Slowest)
  • Class 4 – Minimum of 4 MB/s performance. (Average)
  • Class 6 – Minimum of 6 MB/s performance.  (Above Average)
  • Class 10 – Minimum of 10 MB/s performance. (Fastest)
  • UHS-1 (SDXC CARDS) – Speeds up to 104 MB/s.

If you want all recommendation for the best speed class to get for the Canon A3100 IS, we would have to say go with either a Class 4, 6 or 10. The best bet would be to go with a Class 10, seeing that this speed card is pretty cheap right now. I have used slower cards in the past and it brought me nothing but frustration. When using the slower cards to take pictures at the highest settings, the camera would take a while to write the data. If I had purchased myself a faster card, I would not have to wait as long. This is also true, when it comes to transferring videos and pictures directly from the camera to the computer. Moving this data from a slower card takes a long time, as opposed to a faster card.

Best Memory Card for the Canon Powershot A3100 IS

Below are my best memory card picks for the Canon Powershot A3100 IS.

  • The Transcend 32GB Class 10 SDHC Card is one of the best options for the Canon Powershot A3100 IS. It is fast and also has ample storage space for pictures and videos. What I love about this card is that it is inexpensive, especially for all its high end features. Transcend has a reputation for making quality memory cards, so this means you will be getting a good product. If you want a great card, then this is the memory card of choice.
  • If you want another card that has great performance and is pretty inexpensive, then the Transcend 16GB SDHC Class 10 is another great option. This card has ½ the space of the 32GB version, but it is still great value for money. 16GB should be able to provide all the space you need for your photos and videos. I am positive you will be satisfied with this card.

*Compatibility Issues

If you have plans to get a SDHC or SDXC card, then you should check to see if your computer will be able to read it. Many of the older computers/laptops have SD card readers and because of this, they will not be able to read SDHC/SDXC cards. If you have the old card reader, then you can buy one that can read SDHC/SDXC. You Can GET ONE HERE For Cheap .

  1. Hi, I have recently taken many ‘still’ images with a new Canon3100 is which I am delighted with. Ihave viewed the images through my TV but the movies do not appear. They play back through the camera. I have a USB cable. I suppose I will need to burn a DVD to get movies and sound, is this correct? thanks, Peter

  2. Hi Peter,

The Canon 3100 should be able to play the movies back through the television. I am no expert, but it could be a camera setting or something else that is off. Have a look through the user manual to see if there is a solution to the problem.
